The Yax K’uk’Mo’s expedition team has learned the coordinates of a central Portal planet from the Myzel. Flying to this mysterious world, though dangerous, is vital because it seems to have a connection to the Dark Brotherhood. La mystérieuse impulsion tachyonique a fait son effet et, partout dans le Système Solaire, y compris dans le centre de recherche Uluru, les Globusters sont sortis de leur engourdissement et sont devenus des menaces pour tous.

Il est évident que cette décharge énergétique a joué le rôle d'impulsion d'éveil pour ces êtres, mais la technologie extraterrestre aussi réagit à cette excitation. Hassan Khalil, analyste-système de l'Union Solaire en train d'examiner un vaisseau globuster placé en orbite terrestre, perçoit, au sens propre du terme, cette influence dans son corps.

Bien que l'Agitateur ait pu être neutralisé et la menace directe des Globusters sur Uluru surmontée, un risque potentiel bien plus élevé existe sur le planétoïde Sedna. Il s'y trouve en effet une gigantesque station, inconnue jusqu'ici, construite par des extraterrestres, avec plusieurs centaines de Gardiens du Système en stase, ainsi qu'un immense vaisseau-mère auquel l'Union Solaire n'a rien de comparable à opposer.

Une petite équipe de reconnaissance conduite par Igor Petrow y a rencontré d'autres êtres vivants qui n'ont, semble-t-il, rien à voir avec les Globusters. Ces extraterrestres à peau bleue, appelés provisoirement, Architectes de la Matrice, semblent être des corps étrangers dans la station, mais du fait des différences importantes entre la technologie trouvée et celle des Globusters, force est de supposer que ces derniers ne peuvent pas avoir été les constructeurs des équipements de Sedna. Quand les Bleus, ainsi désigné par simplicité, se réveillent de leurs sarcophages temporels, toute l'équipe de Petrow est déjà prisonnière car les Globusters ont aussi été réveillés par l'impulsion tachyonique.

Le portail situé dans l'atmosphère de Neptune montre une augmentation importante d'activité et, quand le champ de transport extrêmement brillant commence à diminuer, il laisse passer un être inconnu qui inquiète sérieusement les Trox encore présents, alors que les Humains appellent désespérément à l'aide.

Les hommes et les femmes de l'Union Solaire se trouvent de façon inattendue face à un nouvel extraterrestre qui a ses propres attentes et crée une certaine confusion. Il s'agit d'un Prophète des Génorants…
